Why Choose College?

why-choose-college

Should you stay at school or should you go to college?

Deciding to leave school after your GCSEs can be a difficult decision, particularly if you have had a successful time at school. It is important that you explore all of your options at this age and that is where we can help you!

Even if you are planning on staying at school, or studying elsewhere, we are here to provide you with the key information you need to make an informed decision about your next steps. Our award winning Helpzone team can help you find the perfect course, whether that is continuing on to do your A Levels, going onto an Apprenticeship, or studying a more practical based course full time such as Hospitality, Animal Care or Marine Engineering, to name just a few.

Why choose college?*

1. 834,000 16 to 18 year olds choose to study in colleges (compared with 438,000 in maintained school and academy sixth forms)
2. It's unlikely that you will be required to be in college every day. This gives you the time to study at home and get a part-time job if you wish
3. Earn whilst you learn! You don’t have to be in class all week. Doing an apprenticeship or traineeship will give you the opportunity to learn 'on the job' and take a wage. We work with over 500 companies and offer 40 apprenticeship training routes so there is plenty to choose from!
4. Colleges gain excellent success rates. In 2014, our A Level students achieved an overall pass rate of 99.5%. We also topped the tables for all ages and courses, with a success rate of 94.7%, resulting in us being recognised as the number 1 Further Education and Tertiary College in England!
5. Employers view 17 to 18 year old college leavers as better prepared for work than school leavers of the same age. Our commitment to employability has been recognised with an accreditation with Investors in Careers.
6. 144,000 students study a degree in college. We are the only college in South Devon where you can start at entry level, and leave us with a degree!
7. Colleges are inspected by Ofsted too! Our Ofsted report speaks for itself; we were rated Outstanding at our most recent inspection!

Combine this with our:

  • Small class sizes
  • Excellent support
  • Adult learning environment
  • Fantastic facilities

You are sure to reach your potential and achieve more than you thought possible!
