ESOL classes are designed for residents whose first language is not English. During the academic year 2013/14 the qualifications offered by South Devon College are City & Guilds ESOL Speaking and Listening at entry levels 1, 2 and 3.
To find out your level you will be invited to attend a pre-enrolment skills check session. This will help us identify your current skills and decide which class will suit you best. Wherever possible classes are split into different levels so you will be working with others of similar capabilities. The classes run for two hours a week for 10 weeks.
Those ESOL students whose assessment shows them to be working at a higher level of skill may be eligible to enrol on a Functional Skills qualification course (English and /or maths) at level 1 or 2 instead. These courses run for 2 hours a week for 15 weeks.
ESOL (for speakers of other languages) and Functional Skills classes are offered at Vantage Point, South Devon College’s main site, and through Adult Community Learning (ACL) on a variety of dates and times during the day and evenings.
