South Devon College training for the unemployed
South Devon College offers FREE training to help those who are about to, or who have recently been made unemployed up to 12 months. The purpose of the training is to help you to update or gain the skills and knowledge to help you get back into employment.
We will help you to identify and close the gaps in your knowledge and skills by offering short courses and to work towards a qualification to enhance your chances of securing work. We offer flexible Information Advice and Guidance that is confidential and impartial through one to one support that normally takes about one hour, but more session can be arranged until you are happy with your learning plan.
We offer two provisions:
The Work Focused Training is specifically for people who:
• Have been unemployed for between 6 and 12 months
• Are in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance
• Have agreed with Jobcentre Plus / South Devon College that their current skills are effecting their chances of getting a job with good long term prospects
• To be in Jobcentre Plus Stage 3 Criteria
The Response to Redundancy provision is specifically for people who are:
• At risk of redundancy
• Under notice of Redundancy
• Recently redundant (less than 3 months)
• Unemployed 0 to 6 months
• Have agreed with South Devon College that their current skills are effecting their chances of getting a job with good long term prospects
What Course(s) can I choose?
Courses have to meet your short term career aims, and will need to be identified and agreed with your advisor at South Devon College.
• Accounting, Business & Management
• Administration and Computing
• Hospitality and Tourism
• Plumbing and Electrical
• Brickwork and Plastering
• Security training
• Health and Safety / First Aid
We also provide employment support offered either 1 to 1 or small group session support in CVs, Cover Letter, Application Forms and Interview Techniques.
