Hairdressing (Adults) Diploma Level 1
Would you like a career in hairdressing?
Our Level 1 course is ideal if you’re at the start of your journey and will give you a solid foundation of skills and knowledge to help you progress. You’ll learn and work in the College’s own salon of Hair and Beauty. The salons feature professional products and industry-standard equipment; you’ll experience a realistic and immersive working environment while being fully supported by our experienced lecturers. In our salons you will work with members of the general public who are paying clients, giving you an incredible insight into the real world of work – both on reception and in the salon itself.
The hairdressing department works with local employers to enrich your experience on the course. You will participate in structured work experience or work placements within their businesses, as well as exciting and unique lectures on specialist topics given by industry experts.
Work experience is an essential part of your course, and you will be expected to attend a salon one day per week. This will give you hands-on, practical experience of working in the industry.
You will have practical assessments, as well as theory-based assignments.
Teaching includes a range of demonstrations, practical sessions. The basis of the assessment system is to provide evidence that shows you can work to a performance standard. Assessments for Level 1 are carried out by an assessor observing your practical work, oral questioning, and projects and assignments.
You will be expected to ensure that you have a range of clients or models for all practical classes on which to develop your skills and carry out assessments.
Kit and Uniform
Uniform requirements: Smart black clothes, College tunic, comfortable, closed toe shoes.
Kit: You will need a hairdressing kit, which you will be given more information about.

This course may offer funding for those who are over 19, have been resident in the UK for three years, with the exception of those who live within a devolved adult education area and those currently enrolled on an apprenticeship please click here for more information.

Shampooing and Conditioning

If the amount shown is more than £0.00 and you are aged 19 and over at the start of the course, you may have options to help fund your studies with us. The funding you can receive depends on your personal circumstances, and could mean you are entitled to fully subsidised or reduced tuition fees.
Many of our courses are fully funded for 16-18 year olds however not all courses are available for this age group.
You may also be entitled to support with travel, childcare and equipment.
